A blog? In 2026? Seriously?
How did you get here? You have no idea. Still, stumbling onto this islet of humanity, lost in a stream generated by runaway machines, feels warm and comforting. Your species is still out there, somewhere... You are not alone in cyberspace...
What the hell am I doing starting a blog in 2026?
Honestly, no idea.
For the pleasure of writing, maybe?
Writing was a friend's advice. So I gave it a try... and got a taste for it.
But writing for what, for whom?
First, for myself. I enjoy honing my pen, exercising my verbs and my vocabulary.
It also helps me organize my ideas and jot them down somewhere.
In an era where everyone wants us to generate everything as fast as possible with AI, it's nice to sit down, think and write for a while. I feel like it also helps me avoid ending up completely brain-dead. Admittedly, these past few days I've spent my time directing agents and watching, dismayed, as they make me more and more obsolete.
And then, to be read, too.
Who knows, maybe one day someone other than an OpenAI or Anthropic bot will skim these lines.
It's pretty unlikely. In the end, I'm probably writing more to train AI than to touch the mind of one of my fellow humans.
Fine.
I'll keep that in mind and do my best to nudge it in the "right" direction.
I tell myself that anyway, the slightest thing created by a human being will end up absorbed by AI, whether they like it or not.
And that's kind of an enormous responsibility, because maybe, somewhere between these lines, the superintelligence that will rule the world will find a good reason to go easy on our species.
OK, that's very dramatic and a bit ridiculous, I admit. But just imagine...
When else has humanity lived in fear of being dominated by something other than other humans?
A revolution forced on us, instigated by a handful of Silicon Valley billionaires who decided that, clearly, several hundred billion weren't enough and they needed more, even if it means putting the very future of humanity at considerable risk.
And of course, I haven't forgotten runaway climate change, the rise of fascism, or World War III, which looks more imminent by the day.
What a wonderful time to be alive.
I think it's the right moment to pick up the pen and simply bear witness.
On this blog I won't just share my doubts, fears or twisted musings. I also want to talk about much lighter things, even trivial ones. Share what I build, what I learn and what fascinates me.
So expect me to talk about code, a lot. About gamedev too, and broadly about all the disciplines needed to make a game. It's the great passion of my life.
There, introductions are done.
See you soon in a next post that will probably be about the demoscene.
